Five Places Serving a Tasty New Year’s Day Brunch
Nothing quite like ringing in the new year with a raging headache. You’d think we all would have learned by now, but no, every year, we manage to overdo it. Since New Year’s Day falls on a Tuesday this year, I for one am grateful for all the restaurants open and serving New Year’s Day brunch for the bleary-eyed masses (or lunch, depending on what time you roll out of bed). Here are some places where you can let the healing begin.
For those with a serious appetite, you’ll want to check out the buffet at this restaurant in the chic Hotel Vitale. They’ll be serving a buffet from 10:30am–2:30pm for $40, with unlimited beverages available for an additional $20. (Children under 12 eat for $25.) Go for a walk on the Embarcadero afterward for some fresh air. Reservations can be made by calling 415-278-3777.
Fortunately one of the city’s best brunch spots will be open, bringing back its hangover brunch with dishes like a hangover soup with a poached farm egg, croque madame, and more. Bonus: their Sunday Bloody Caesar is there to help you. 11am–3pm.
Have some friends or family staying downtown? Maybe you want to start the year with some dramatic style. Perhaps hearing the words “house-cured corned beef Benedict” is all you need. This Mission favorite for brunch will be serving from 10:30am-3pm. With brunch items on the menu like “the lumberjack” and duck confit hash, you’re in good hands. Oh, and then there’s that bacon butter burger…

Oy, your head. Cruise on over to this Mission outpost for cure-alls like their incredible matzo ball soup, and pastrami and eggs. Want to take it to the next level? Get their pastrami cheese fries.
