Soomin Han says that her wedding proposal was a ridiculously romantic cliché—which is exactly what she wanted. Her then-boyfriend, Chung Ho Park, took her out to an elegant hotel restaurant where he had arranged to have a private room decorated with candles and flowers. In the glow of candlelight, as their song "Love You" by Korean pop singer Jungyup played, he offered her a glittering diamond ring. Was it the most original idea? Perhaps not. But, as Soomin says, "It was the perfect proposal."

Because Soomin works at an art gallery, the San Francisco Asian Art Museum was a natural choice. The artistic notes included a sculptural white bouquet of orchids, hydrangeas, and calla lilies. The bridesmaids wore deep navy-blue dresses of their choice. "I wanted them to wear the style they liked and that looked best on them," says Soomin. The groomsmen wore matching ties. Magenta flowers, seen here on the escort card table, provided splashes of color throughout the event. Table numbers were printed on circles of chocolate. Soomin loves patterns, so three that work in harmony were selected and printed on fabric, which was used as table runners and wrapped around pillars and vases.

The couple chose to marry on the museum's grand staircase as their guests watched from the balconies. The program was created in a classic blue-and-white style. Soomin wore a ruffled gown by Oscar de la Renta. Bridesmaids carried pink bouquets. "I like how that color looks against the dark blue," says the bride. Deco-style blue-and-white velvet chairs were custom-made by Hartmann Studios for the event.

Tall, white floral arrangements towered over tables dressed in the crisp color palette. Calligrapher Tracy Joe created the handwritten materials. The evening's menu was sealed with a band bearing the couple's initials stamped in silver foil. The museum's Samsung Hall was the setting for the reception, which was designed to feel more like a chic, cosmopolitan dinner club gathering than a traditional wedding reception.

White calla lilies graced the dessert buffet. The geometric pattern on the brass grill in the building's windows reinforced the designs on the tables. The ruffles that cascaded down the wedding cake were made to mimic the details on Soomin's dress. The cake's stand was also wrapped with the fabric designed for the wedding.
