Habitual bikers will tell you that seeing San Francisco by bike is a perspective-changing experience. In less than an hour, you can whiz through a myriad of neighborhoods and past picturesque parks, tiered and gabled buildings and the gigantic gothic structures of the FiDi.

Add a little substance to your wonder this Saturday at local historian and bike enthusiast Chris Carlsson's Bike History Tour. During an epic four-hour bike ride weaving through the old FiDi, along the waterfront past AT&T Park and the Ferry Building and through North Beach, learn about the lost history of San Francisco's class and labor wars.

Carlsson (whose bike tours were voted Best of the Bay by the SF Bay Guardian in 2007 and called "unrivaled" on Yelp) also does other awesome bike journeys, with ecological, food, transit and cemetary history themes around town.

The bike tour meets at CounterPULSE at 1310 Mission at 9th Street at noon. There is a sliding scale donation fee, from $15-50, and it all goes to preserve Shaping San Francisco. For any more information, call (415) 608-9035.
