TACO POP-UP at DONA TOMAS
Tacos Oscar is headed to Oakland's Dona Tomas next week for a pop-up that's sure to bring the house down. For one night only on Monday, October 5, Tacos Oscar will be serving up a small menu of tacos (including their amazing fried egg taco), beans, and guacamole from 5:30-10pm. Pop-Pop Paletas will be on hand with popsicles to quell the heat, and Doña Tomás will be offering a limited bar menu to help you down as many tacos are possible. We know it's not Tuesday, but any night is a good night for tacos. // 5004 Telegraph Avenue, Oakland
SCOTLAND YARD UNVEILS BRUNCH
The Marina's newest restaurant just launched brunch last weekend - which means the lines might actually be tolerable! Classic brunch standards get a stoner treatment at this Sherlock Holmes-esque eatery with a 16-dish menu featuring carb-loaded dishes such as chicken & waffle bites (with Captain Crunch-encrusted chicken thighs, of course), carrot cake French toast, or the classic Yard Burger with 5 oz. patty of Niemen Ranch beef, bone marrow, and topped with a fried egg. Bid that hangover goodbye! // 10:30am-3pm, 3232 Scott St, San Francisco, scotlandyardsf.com
CALAVERA OPENS FOR LUNCH
You probably already knew that we love Calavera, the new Oaxacan restaurant in Oakland's The Hive. Now the authentic Mexican eatery is expanding their hours to include lunch from 11am-3pm on weekdays with a menu that includes a selection of tortas including the Hongos torta with grilled wild mushrooms, black garlic, chipotle, goat cheese, guacamole and salsa verde cruda ($13), and the Puerco Con Huevo torta with braised pork shank, tomato, avocado, over-easy egg, black beans, and salsa mucho chilies ($14). Oh, and did we mention they're now open for brunch (from 10am-3pm on Saturday and Sunday) too, serving up chilaquiles rojos and enchiladas suizas? You know where to find us. // 2337 Broadway, Oakland, calaveraoakland.com

NEW RESTAURANT: THE ADVOCATE OPENS IN BERKELEY
A 3,400-square foot space on Ashby Avenue in Berkeley has been transformed into an airy, modern restaurant from the brothers behind popular eatery, Comal. Executive chef John Griffiths (The Kitchen, An American Place), is crafting classic, Northern California-inspired cuisine featuring wood-grilled flatbreads, squid on the plancha, and wood-grilled beef short rib. The best part? The menu is surprisingly affordable (the most expensive entree clocks in at $29), which means you need not wait for payday to make a reservation. // 635 Ashby Ave, Berkeley, advocateberkeley.com
