Suggestions for an Arty Saturday

By

Did you have a great time at the opening of Receiver's latest show Me vs Me? Want more Porous Walker/Jimmy Dimarcellis but just don't know how?

Come by Receiver this Saturday at 2pm and glue toys together with Jimmy. He'll give a brief talk about all the work in this show and then lead everyone in some good old fashioned toy-gluing.

Once there is a sufficient amount of toy assemblages, everyone will go around back to Orange Alley and install these little art show supplements, extending the show beyond the gallery right into the community.

Please come at 2pm with your own glue guns or with whatever be your prefered plastic toy gluing medium. Plain old Elmer's probably won't get the job done. Bubble gum just works in the movies. This will be a BYOGG event. Jimmy also has quite a few extra toys, but if you can bring your own, please do so.

And, as usual, treats will be provided by neighboring Anthony's Cookies.

Dedicated art blogger Meighan O'Toole, of My Love For You is a Stampede of Horses, moved away from SF to Boston awhile back, but is coming back to the Bay and curating a great group show titled, You’ve Got Light in Your Eyes at Needles & Pens that opens Saturday, May 2 at 7pm.

She's been posting previews of the artwork in a set on Flickr. Artists featured include Kate Bingaman Burt, John Casey, Rare Device's Lisa Congdon, Jeremiah Maddock (shown above), Kime Buzzelli, and Maxwell Loren Holyoke-Hirsch, whose artwork adorns the full cover of the latest issue of Faesthetic—a periodic publication that features tons of emerging artists and zero advertising.

Issue #11 is available via faesthetic.com. The mag is $8, which is cheap for a high-faluting, quality art magazine, but the shipping is $8.40 at minimum. We just chatted with N&P proprietor Andrew Scott and he expects to get some copies into the shop soon, so if you don't make it to the opening, there's another reason to pop by this awesome zine and D.I.Y. goodies store.
