The Winner Of Our Favorite Charity Contest Is....

After all the hard work this city did to rally supporters, nominate causes it's passionate about and leverage votes for our second annual favorite charity contest, one clear winner emerged from the pool of seven finalists: Muttville Senior Dog Rescue! These tireless ladies, along with their volunteers, save dozens upon dozens of senior and special needs dogs from euthanasia and help them find permanent homes. They'll receive $10,000 from one of the Bay Area's largest corporate philanthropic organizations, Pacific Gas & Electric. Congratulations to our runners up, who each receive $2,000 from Pacific Gas & Electric as well: Hearing & Speech Center of Northern California, Lyon-Martin Health Services, Mayor's Youth Employment & Education Program, Minds Matter, Saving Grace Rescue and the SF Asian Women's Shelter.

We hope that during this season of giving, a campaign like this can remind everyone how much we are able to give back throughout the year. Until next year!

Cograts to Muttsville!
Your a great group and do sooo much good work helping our older four-legged friends!!!

Everyone is a winner by the fact that 7 x 7 showcased these organizations but it seems as if the "dog nuts" clearly are the most passionate. We voted for people who can't afford healthcare with Lyon Martin and abandoned senior dogs who are homeless through Muttville. Humans do make their own life choices for themselves and their pets, but their pets have no voice and ability to survive on their own. I'm glad to see all top seven charities earned prize money from the sponsor. Thanks for doing this 7 x 7!

this contest wasn't to vote the best or most worthy cause, it was to vote the best charity. why did hundreds of supporters rally to vote for these charities? perhaps people feel they have great leadership, are well organized, communicate to supporters well, and volunteers enjoy the work. Somehow they instill a sense of dedication and pride that motivates their supporters to vote (and give) everyday. Maybe it does have to do with great marketing or PR or communication. If a charity does do a great job running their organization then perhaps that is a reason to be voted "SF's favorite charity".
And I second the last comment. In a world where people have a choice to spend their time and money on anything, i commend folks who take the time to give a part of themselves to help or support any cause or charity. I wish everyone who can give gives, and everyone in need is able to receive help.

I believe that anyone that gets up in the morning and does something good in this world is worthy. Why someone feels the need to put down an organization that is doing something is beyond me.
I can appreciate what all of you do out there, all these organizations make the world a better place. If you want to be mad and badmouth someone, direct your anger towards the haters and hurters, not those that have a calling and work hard and with compassion.

I have to say, Muttville, Asian Shelter and Lion Martin are the groups I regularily voted for. They all do incredible work just like everyone else who was in the top 49 groups. Everyone is deserving of the grand prize, without a doubt.

We are all in this together. It is not fair to say that one group deserved it more than another group, because that is certainly not true. Everyone has different opions and has their heart set on different missions. It is not fair to judge why people voted for the groups that they did.

Keep up the good work everyone and Happy Holidays. Congratulations to you all!

Thank you to the poster below for being the sole voice of reason. This time of year (and all year) is "a very cruel time" for many humans, as well, so many of whom need "forever homes", too. Shame on the dog nuts who clearly "stuffed the ballot box" on this one. Thankfully, the other worthy causes received donations as well, albeit smaller.

As much as I love my fur babies as much as the next person - even more, as I work for a non-kill shelter which will remain nameless...this time of year IS tough for our 4 legged companions...but it's also tough, if not tougher, for humanity around us. That is going so broke, and fallen so ill, that they can't take care of their beloved 4 legged companions. Shame on you 7x7 - is it really a popular vote? Lyon-Martin has done more for this City than most, with bare bone funding - and isn't given cars and featured by Oprah for national attention as Muttville is. If the 2 legged creatures, while often undeserving, but still in need, weren't falling on such hard times, there wouldn't be so many animals being abandoned and left to us to take care of in the first place. The same message for the US to see about SF - we care more for our pets than the people that make up our City. Often that do own pets, and put their 4 legged companions health above their own, thus having no where else to turn BUT the low cost clinics, like Lyon-Martin. Or a women's shelter. Muttville's rolling in it this year.

Everyone, please adopt or foster a pet this holiday season either from your local shelter or from a rescue group --like Muttville. This time of year is a very cruel time for animals. There is a huge increase in owners dumping them and thus a HUGE increase in animals being killed in the overflowing shelters. --Ann

I was rooting for Saving Grace Rescue, but I am really glad to see Muttville win. Congratulations to all.

Congrats!! You ladies do a fantastic job and we're thrilled to continue to feature your adoptable pets on Wet Nose Guide.

Every one of these groups would have been worthy!!! Congratulations to everyone!

Of course I can't lie. I am adored by a Muttville Adoptee, so I am biased!

Thank you Sherri! Keep on doing exactly what you are doing to help deserving Senior Dogs in need!!

Brinnie says, "OXOXOX Woof!"

Yay for Muttville, that means more deserving dogs can be saved and with this exposure, find more forever homes. Thanks to all who voted, we love our Muttville dog.

I am so happy for Muttville. I adopted my girl from Muttville, and she has changed my life. I only wish every one of these worthy causes was given ten thousand dollars. I moved here from the south, but I feel proud to live in San Francisco. It's so wonderful that we have all of these programs that help those that need it the most, and I want to say thanks to all of these organizations for all that you do.

I am so happy for all the mutts at muttville, sheri franklin and all the volunteers who work endlessly to save these wonderful senior dogs. These dogs deserve all the love they can get and you people do a wonderful job. I was hoping and praying that your organization would win and you did exactly that. Congrats and God Bless you all. I wish I was there to help out but I live in georgia and work with no kill shelters when possible.

I'm so Happy for Muttville, and congratulations to all the runner ups!
