More Local Bands + Ben Gibbard Slated for Noise Pop
Noise Pop's people have filled in the blanks in their previously-tepid lineup, and added a Lower Haight pop-up shop debuting in February to keep the party going all month long.
They've got a full arsenal of local bands forming the bedrock of the festival; besides the aforementioned Tamaryn, Dominant Legs, and Stone Foxes, they've added the demented Ramones-esque garage of Nobunny, Hunx & His Punx and 7x7 faves Royal Baths (both opening for the Best Coast-Wavves lovefest) Wax Idols and the Soft Moon, Grass Widow, AB & The Sea, the Fresh & Onlys and Magic Bullets.
Death Cab for Cutie singer Ben Gibbard's performance at Great American Music Hall, with Zach Rogue of Rogue Wave, is already sold out (I didn't even know there were still so many Death Cab and Postal Service fans left out there), as well as singer-songwriter Alexi Murdoch's show at Swedish American Hall, but never fear, because Craigslist is always there to save you.
The grind of hip hop act Peanut Butter Wolf and proggy Dam Funk will shake and rattle the walls of Public Works on Saturday Feb. 26th, while turntablist Kid Koala will spin at Mighty on Friday, the 25th. Good luck not dancing all night long at those shows. The delightfully weird duo of Kimya Dawson and Aesop Rock will share the stage at Great American Music Hall on the 25th, and art punkers No Age--who once you've seen live, you'll never want to miss again--headline at Rickshaw Stop, also on the 25th. As for the pop-up shop coming on February 2nd, Noise Pop has partnered up with Upper Playground to take over Fifty24SF gallery. By day, it will be a merch and ticket store and venue to view the "Louder Than Bombs" art show (reimagined album art by local artist PEZ) and day-in-the-life photos of Dominant Legs and Tamaryn. At night, it will turn into a performance space for local bands and comedians. Read more about the scheduled events here.
