A Sweet Spot for Castro

Styled after the classic soda shop with a chic Art Deco motif, Castro Fountain has opened the doors to its peach-and-black tiled scoop shop after months of delays. Like its sister spot, The Ice Cream Bar, the soda fountain will serve ice cream and sweets (cookies, cakes, pies, and more) from executive pastry chef Lori Rich. Restaurant Hopping

Chef Sara Hauman can't stay put. Having left her post as the founding chef at Huxley after just one year in early 2016, and then another short stint at Mister Jiu's, Hauman has joined Melissa Perello's team at Octavia, whereshe's combiningher rustic style and high technique in fermentation projects (housemade vinegars and preserves) and new dishes. The Kebabery, the second restaurant from Allison Hopelain and Russell Moore (Camino), is bringing a new sensory experience to Oakland's Longfellow neighborhood. Quick Trip to Italy
