Animating Dark Dreams: The Films of Jan Svankmager
World-renowned animator and filmmaker Jan Svankmajoer creates his own spin on Lewis Carroll's classic tale Alice in Wonderland to depict a "grown-up" dream-like world. Consider it Alice for adults. His extraordinary visual effects and menacing dream logic are present in all of his films and are sure to draw you in, taking your mind on a magical journey. Check out our in-depth blog here.

The Paris Urban Experiment
The anonymous members of the Paris Urban eXperiment—aka "The UX"— have spent the last 30 years secretly improving the world. The underground hackers and artists shot to stardom one morning when the broken clock at the Panthéon shockingly began chiming again. That was just one of 15 restorations The UX has done, without permission of course. Don't miss their first-ever public presentation, brought to us by the Long Now Foundation, where UX spokesman Lazar Kunstman and Wired author Jon Lackman show you just what these mysterious heroes have been up to.

Carolee Schneemann
One great artist, two fascinating exhibits. Throughout her five-decade-long career, Carolee Schneemann has transformed how people see art in relation to sexuality and gender. Her work, which spans from text and painting to photography, surrounds the idea of art in relation to the body. Schneemannhas shown her work all around the country from Los Angeles to New York, so don't miss out on seeing her talk at the SF Art Institute and then follow it up with a visit to Gallery Paule Anglim.

Levi's Exhibit
Unleash your inner biker chick—or dude. Levi's Vintage Clothing is launching "The Biker with Oil and Leather & The Bikeriders" exhibit at their Union Square flagship store. The collection pays homage to the renegade style of the original American biker—think James Dean in a white t-shirt and classic leather jacket. To celebrate this legacy, Levi's found 21 artists and illustrators from around the world to make their own black moto jackets using oil paints. And, don't miss a tribute to the historic 1968 photo-documentary by Danny Lyon, The Bikeriders, to take you on a journey of this unique style.

Cause
Save the Waves Film Festival
San Francisco is the last stop on this 3-city nonprofit tour and fundraiser. Check out the world premiere of flicks including the surf trip documentary Goundswell and get a deep look into the heart of the ocean with the short film called Ode to California. It's all for the great cause of preserving the waters around the world.

McSweeney's Hang Glider & Mud Mask

Acclaimed artist John Waguespack is bringing his talent to SF with his exhibit "New Works." Lucky Peach Live!: Fish Out of Water
This event has got Bay Area foodies flopping about like, you know, in a scramble to hook tickets to see chefs Danny Bowien (Mission Chinese Food), Nicolaus Balla (Bar Tartine), and Ivan Orkin (Ivan Ramen) talk non-native cuisines at the Jewish Community Center. The night of foreign flavor coincides with the release of the food magazine's Issue 5 about Chinatown and the Chinese diaspora. Start combing Craigslist now for last-minute cancellations.

Nas and Lauryn Hill
Ready or not, here they come. Hip-hop mega superstars Nas and Lauryn Hill continue their Good/Black Rage tour with a stop in the Bay Area. The title of the tour comes from a collaboration of Nas' record breaking #1 album Life is Good and Hill's new song "Black Rage." The veteran dynamic duo is sure to put on an incredible show.
