Wine and Unwind: Where to Swim in Wine Country This Summer

Bust out the swim trunks or sleek maillot and venture to Wine Country.

Aside from the trellis-grown flora and corked concoctions, the region is home to some of the best watering holes anywhere in California. Grab your towels, make sure to hydrate, and remember to reapply sunscreen every two hours at our favorite places to dip into the drink.

You'll feel like a movie star sipping on a cocktail when you lounge beside one of Francis Ford Coppola's pools. The glamorous property has two large lagoons, connected by a swimmable water bridge. And to make sure you stay chic at all times, there are 28 small cabins available to rent where you can change, store personal items, and even shower. Indian Springs Resort and Spa

Constructed in 1913, the geyser-fed Olympic-size pool at Indian Springs Resort and Spa is rich with minerals and naturally warm—around 102 degrees in winter and 92 degrees in summer. It's the perfect place to relax—regardless of the weather—with a gorgeous view of the nearby mountains. They've recently added a new adult pool to the mix. Smaller, quieter and more intimate than the main pool, it's also kept about 10 degrees cooler. The pools are open until midnight, allowing you to float underneath the Napa Valley stars. Calistoga Ranch

At the luxe Wine Country resort Calistoga Ranch, you can find a sparkling pool surrounded by evergreen hills to enjoy poolside bubbly from. Now in its 11th year, Solage continues to put on their summer pool parties. From now through September, you can sip on poolside bubbly and nosh tasty hors d'oeuvres. Hotel Yountville

Rooted in Yountville history—and smackdab in the heart of Wine Country—Hotel Yountville, aside from offering ultra-luxe digs, is home to an outdoor pool with copper accents and black steel. Up Valley Inn

Upon first glance, Up Valley Inn's small, unassuming pool might not seem all too worthwhile...until you discover that it's among a handful of 100 percent mineral dipping holes in the region. Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa

Open to all guests, Calistoga Motor Lodge and Spa's three naturally heated pools—Main Pool Wading Pool, Mineral Spa Whirlpool (all which range between 85 and 104 degrees Fahrenheit)—are bastions for relaxation. Post-soak, you can zen out on one of their poolside hammocks, or a lounger that sits idyllically under a shaded trellis—drink in hand. Non-hotel guests can expect to pay an $89 daily charge for pool access, with in-spa treatments starting at $175; though various, more affordable specials can be taken advantage of frequently. Monte Rio Beach

East of the Monte Rio Bridge, known by locals also as Big Rocky, Monte Rio Beach is a natural NorCal oasis with quiet stretches of smooth sands that shoulder part of the Russian River. Beachgoers have the option of renting a canoe, paddle board or kayak at varying rates. Swimming and floating is allowed, as well.
